Genoa take too long to get a final cross into the box and their time is up.
90' +2
S. Gentiletti gets yellow.
CLOSE! Superb defending from Edenilson to pile the pressure on Antonelli as he stormed onto Deulofeu's fine cross at the back post. So close to a second, decisive goal.
YELLOW! Santiago Gentiletti drags down Kucka to earn a booking.
90' +1
There will be three minutes to be added here. Three minutes for Milan to hold out, but they look the more likely to score right now.
90'
Ocampos is down after a heavy collision in the air, but he does not require treatment and is back on his feet with some encouragement from the referee. Time is running out for Genoa.
88'
More deep crosses, more solid Milan defending. Donnarumma claims the latest delivery high at the back post.
87'
L. Antonelli enters the game and replaces G. Lapadula.
In a defensive switch, Luca Antonelli replaces Lapadula.
86'
It's corner after corner for Genoa at the minute, but Milan look more likely to score on the counter than the visitors do from their own set-piece.
85'
CHANCE! Deulofeu has got through so much work in this second half. He's on the run again, working space to shoot in the box, but thrashes into the side-netting. He appears a little frustrated at the lack of support.
84'
CLOSE! Oh, Ocampos gets this so wrong! A cleared Genoa corner allows Ocampos and Deulofeu to break, and the latter only needs to slip the former in and he's clear on goal. He delays the pass, though, and Deulofeu cannot hold his run. Offside.
Minute
Description
82'
Genoa are struggling to work a route back into this game. Ntcham lets fly from distance, but it's a long way over the top.
80'
CHANCE! De Sciglio directs a header just past the post. That was a real chance. Lamanna had made a hash of claiming a corner, won by Lapadula, and gave Milan a second crossing opportunity.
78'
M. De Sciglio gets yellow.
Milan look to counter, but it's Kucka who appears to have broken through. He turns back to pick out Lapadula, but a recovering defender snatches possession back.
YELLOW! De Sciglio flies into a challenge and becomes the first home player to go into the book.
76'
M. Pinilla enters the game and replaces A. Taarabt.
Taarabt faded after a promising start and, at his former home, is now replaced by Mauricio Pinilla.
75'
WIDE! Deulofeu drifts inside and runs at the central defenders, but drags his effort, from around 20 yards out, well wide of the goal.
Zapata and Paletta are belatedly getting a test. Genoa continue to throw balls into the box from the right, but the Milan back-line is dealing with it well.
74'
M. Pašalić enters the game and replaces M. Fernández.
Fernandez, having scored the only goal so far, is replaced by Pasalic. A fine shift from the outgoing man.
72'
CHANCE! Milan counter and Ocampos has the chance to put the game to bed. He blazes over, though, and Genoa are back on the attack.
71'
Some pressure at last for Genoa, with the newly established wing backs pushing on. A couple of crosses, both from Edenilson, cannot find their target, though.
69'
D. Biraschi enters the game and replaces A. Izzo.
This will spice up that battle a little. Izzo is injured, so Davide Biraschi comes on. Genoa appear to have switched to a back five now, too.
CHANCE! What a start for Biraschi! Fernandez looked destined to score again as he ran into the area to meet Ocampos' cross, but the defender blocked superbly.
67'
And he's still trying. Deulofeu is snapping at the heels of Izzo this time. The entire game is apparently being played on one wing right now. Genoa are, just about, standing firm.
65'
Deulofeu is always on the move, this time chasing after Zapata's hopeful pass. The ball runs behind, but, eventually, Milan are going to get one right. Genoa need to tighten up down that side.
63'
CHANCE AGAIN! This time Ocampos is free in the box, shooting on his right, but blazes horribly over the crossbar. Milan are struggling to kill this game off.
61'
Edenílson enters the game and replaces D. Lazović.
Almost a mix-up at the back for Genoa. Deulofeu jinks inside, finding his route to goal cut out by Oscar Hiljemark. The midfielder, though, nudges the ball back towards goal and almost catches out Lamanna.
Off goes Lazovic, to be replaced by Edenilson.
CHANCE! Lapadula gets up for a header in the middle, but loops it harmlessly wide. He's struggled to threaten the goal today.
59'
Genoa are struggling to create notable opportunities. They force a corner on the right, but take it short and Lazovic's cross is ultimately far too deep and gives Milan a throw-in on the far side.
57'
BLOCK! SAVE! Lapadula should do so much better here! Fernandez, the star of the show, creates an opening for him with a neat prod inside, but the forward takes too long to shoot and is closed down. The ball ricochets to Locatelli, who fizzes a shot into the keeper's hands.
55'
SAVE AGAIN! Fairly simple again, but that was a good move from Milan. They had struggled to get out after a Genoa free-kick, eventually breaking free as Fernandez layed on a magnificent switch to the chest of Ocampos. He drove inside, but shot straight at Lamanna.
54'
SAVE! Lapadula gets his head to the corner, but it's easy pickings for the goalkeeper as the ball bounces into his arms.
53'
Milan keep the ball until, you guessed it, Deulofeu drives past Lazovic. A low cross is sliced horribly behind for a corner...
50'
More Milan possession, and again it's Deulofeu looking to make something happen. He runs at Ezequiel Munoz but is stopped at the byline.
48'
Crucial interception from Izzo! After a slow couple of minutes, Paletta almost played Deulofeu in with a gorgeous pass over the top.
46'
KICK-OFF: Milan's Lapadula gets us back under way.
45' +3
BLOCK! Oliver Ntcham lets fly from the edge of the box and, with Donnarumma scrambling, it's deflected wide. That was close.
HALF-TIME: AC Milan 1-0 Genoa.
45' +1
There will be three minutes added on for stoppages, with a couple of injuries in the first half.
SAVE! It's simple for Lamanna, taking Kucka's header, but the Milan man did well to get on the end of a deep, deep cross.
45'
Very cool defending from Vangioni, chesting the ball into the arms of Donnarumma from Laxalt's dangerous whipped cross. Lovely stuff.
42'
Izzo is back on the pitch and clashing with Ocampos as he goes to ground after overrunning the ball. The referee initially appeared set to blow for a free-kick but decided against it.
40'
And Izzo is now down, receiving treatment on the right. Not entirely clear what may have happened to the visiting captain.
Milan have just taken their foot off the gas since scoring, but they can afford to as Genoa cheaply give up possession. This time it's Simeone overhitting a pass to Izzo.
38'
A sublime run from Simeone as he attacks both Zapata and Paletta, but his shot, under pressure, is poor and rolls harmlessly through to Donnarumma.
37'
It's all going against Genoa now. They have a promising move through the midfield, but when it comes to play Lazovic in on the left, the pass is too heavy and runs behind. A disappointing few minutes for the visitors.
36'
D. Cataldi gets yellow.
YELLOW! Cataldi goes into the book as he clatters into Locatelli in the middle of the park.
33'
M. Fernández has scored a goal for AC Milan! Assist by G. Lapadula.
It was Lapadula who slid the pass through for Fernandez, there.
GOAL! A first Milan goal for Fernandez! He pounces on the ball in the area and lifts a delightful finish over the goalkeeper. 1-0.
32'
Milan get nowhere with the corner, but work another crossing opportunity and a tame Ocampos header is sent into the hands of Lamanna.
31'
Milan are so adept at quickly turning what appears to be pointless possession into an attacking move. Strolling in the midfield and suddenly Deulofeu is in on the right, teeing up Locatelli to force a corner.
28'
Genoa are having some joy up against Vergioni and Paletta on the right, but they've been unable to turn their attacking endeavours into an opening goal thus far.
26'
A really strong run from Lazovic, cutting inside from the right, but he tries to slide a pass in to Giovanni Simeone and the forward misreads it.
25'
The game has settled down again. A couple of attempted counters at either end have been cut short and Milan are enjoying an extended spell of pressure once more.
22'
CHANCE! Fernandez again! Arriving to meet De Sciglio's fine ball into the box, he can only screw a volley wide. Genoa have faded after such a bright start and it's all Milan now.
21'
CLOSE! Fernandez unleashes a powerful, shaped strike, just missing to the left. Lamanna was scrambling, there.
20'
Taarabt is fortunate to escape a booking as he tracks Cristian Zapata's run all the way back and lunges in hopelessly. Milan now have a free-kick around 25 yards from goal, slightly to the right of centre...
19'
CLOSE! And again Milan are inches away from scoring! Gerard Deulofeu, this time, collects the ball, running from deep to shift onto his right in the area and shoot agonisingly beyond the far post.
17'
OFF THE LINE! So close to a Milan opener! De Sciglio slips a pass into the box for Ocampos, with Eugenio Lamanna's save spinning up for Armando Izzo, the visiting skipper, to hack clear from under the crossbar.
15'
Finally Milan enjoy some possession, but there's a flag up as they look to push a pass in behind on the left side. Genoa can regroup again.
13'
Milan are yet to really get started. It's been all one-way as Genoa come forward. A fine start from the visitors.
11'
Donnarumma has had to sweep up at the back a couple of times so far. Genoa appear to have identified Paletta's lack of mobility and are looking for passes in behind the defence.
CHANCE! Donnarumma saves but Taarabt should do so much better! Darko Lazovic's low centre is only partially turned clear, with the Benfica loanee arriving at the back post only to steer a shot straight at the goalkeeper.
10'
And now a first foul of the game, on that same flank. Diego Laxalt runs Lucas Ocampos off the pitch and it's a Milan free-kick, which they play backwards.
8'
Genoa are working hard, with Taarabt harrying on the left. Andrea Mandorlini will be pleased with this start after that devastating derby defeat in their last fixture.
7'
CLOSE! And now a first attempt at the other end! Kucka twists on the right and crosses, with Locatelli arriving to volley just wide of the left-hand post. Good effort.
6'
SAVE! A first stop for Donnarumma, and it's Taarabt, against his former club, that scuffs a shot on target after a scramble in the area.
5'
Genoa's momentum, from the off, has been slowed a little by that stoppage. Milan come forward but cannot forge an opening.
3'
M. Locatelli enters the game and replaces A. Bertolacci.
Bertolacci manages to make his way off the pitch without the aid of a stretcher, but he cannot continue. Manuel Locatelli is the replacement.
2'
Worrying news for Milan, meanwhile. Andrea Bertolacci is already down and Vincenzo Montella is going to be forced into a very, very early change.
1'
KICK-OFF: Russo blows the whistle and Genoa get us started!
Genoa have started brightly here, immediately attacking, and Taarabt is unfortunate not to win a corner as he takes on Mattia De Sciglio.
Welcome to our live text commentary from San Siro as AC Milan host Genoa!
With rivals Inter held at Torino earlier in the day, Milan can move to within two points of Stefan Pioli's side with a win here. Three points would also see the hosts climb above Atalanta and into sixth.
Milan's five-game unbeaten run came to an end in dramatic circumstances against Juventus last time out - losing to a stoppage-time penalty - and they now face Genoa, who have won four of the sides' last five meetings.
However, while the teams' recent history paints this as a tough test for Milan, a glance at the form guide does the opposite. Genoa have, remarkably, won just one of their last 12 Serie A games. That victory did come in their previous away game, though, at Empoli.
Carlos Bacca, banned in the aftermath of that defeat at Juventus, is out for Milan, with Gianluca Lapadula instead leading the line. Alessio Romagnoli and Sosa are also suspended, while Mario Pasalic drops to the bench, so Leonel Vangioni, Juraj Kucka and Matias Fernandez come in.
Today's visitors won 3-0 in the reverse fixture back in October, scoring through the injured Nikola Ninkovic, a Kucka own goal and the since departed Leonardo Pavoletti. Gabriel Paletta was sent off that day, too. He, Kucka and Milan will all be hoping for much better this time around.
The players are gathered in the tunnel, with kick-off around five minutes away. Much of the focus is, understandably, on Lapadula, standing in for star striker Bacca today.
And here come the teams! Led out by referee Carmine Russo, the sides are taking to the field here at San Siro.
Genoa also make three changes to the side that lost to rivals Sampdoria. Santiago Gentiletti, Danilo Cataldi and Adel Taarabt are in.
Genoa started brightly here, but Milan started to turn the screw as the half wore on and scored through Fernandez. A fine finish.
It's not been all plain sailing for the hosts, though, with Donnarumma forced into action on a couple of occasions, while Bertolacci was forced off early on.
The players are starting to make their way back out onto the pitch again ahead of the second half...
So Milan climb into sixth, above Atalanta, with a victory, courtesy of Fernandez's delicate first-half finish. Genoa rarely threatened to upset the applecart, in truth.
That's all from San Siro. Thanks for joining us. Until next time, goodbye!
