We're underway at the Wanda Metropolitano.
Bilbao are on a five-match winless run in LaLiga, although they did record an impressive win over Spartak Moscow in the Europa League during the week. Although the club have not been winning games in the league, they've not been losing many either. Jose Angel Ziganda's team have lost just one of their last 12 matches, which came at the hands of Girona two weeks ago. Last time out Bilbao drew 0-0 with Las Palmas, with Ziganda knowing that his side will have to improve this afternoon.
Madrid are the only team in the division that can apply pressure to Barcelona at the top of the table. Diego Simeone's men are 10 points off the pace of the Catalan club. However, they have won five out of their last six matches since the start of 2018, defeating Las Palmas, Valencia and Malaga in their last three outings. Antoine Griezmann scored the only goal of the game in the first minute to beat Malaga and Atletico Madrid will be looking for a similar outcome this afternoon.
Good afternoon and welcome to the live commentary of the LaLiga clash between Atletico Madrid and Athletic Bilbao at the Wanda Metropolitano.
The team news has been announced and we'll start with the home side.

STAT! Atletico have not lost any of their six La Liga games at home against Athletic under Diego Simeone (W5 D1).
STAT! Bilbao could be the first team to win against Atletico at Wanda Metropolitano in La Liga. Atletico were the first ever team to win against Athletic in their new ground San Mames in all comps (2-1 in the second leg of quarter-finals of Copa del Rey in January 2014).
Madrid defeated Copehagen 4-1 in their Europa League contest during the week. They've made four changes from the team that delivered the emphatic victory this afternoon. Oblak returns between the sticks, while Vrsaljko and Filipe Luis come into the back four. Hernandez slides across from full-back to partner Gimenez. Costa replaces Gameiro alongside Griezmann in attack.
ATLETICO MADRID (4-4-2): Jan Oblak; Sime Vrsaljko, Jose Gimenez, Lucas Hernandez, Filipe Luis; Andrea Correa, Saul Niguez, Thomas Partey, Koke; Diego Costa, Antoine Griezmann.
HALF-TIME: ATLETICO MADRID 0-0 ATHLETIC BILBAO
It's goalless at the break between Atletico Madrid and Athletic Bilbao in a match of few chances. The best opening of the game arguably fell for Jose Gimenez as he latched on to Antoine Griezmann's free-kick, only to steer the ball wide of the post. Other than that the home side have struggled to produce quality in the final third, with Bilbao's rearguard action limiting their progress in and around the box. Diego Costa has had a decent appeal for a penalty turned away by the referee and that could loom large at the end of the match. However, Diego Simeone will want to see a lot more from his team after the interval.
FULL-TIME: ATLETICO MADRID 2-0 ATHLETIC BILBAO
Atletico Madrid found their clinical edge in the second half to see off Athletic Bilbao. It was far from a classic performance from Diego Simeone's men, although the introduction of Kevin Gameiro turned the match. The Frenchman scored the opening, finishing well following a flowing move from the home side. He then teed up Diego Costa to kill off the game with an incisive pass before the striker beat Kepa. Bilbao defended well for 67 minutes, but after conceding their gameplan was undone and they produced nothing to get back into the game. Jose Angel Ziganda's team are now winless in six matches in LaLiga - that record has to improve soon.
Thanks for joining our commentary this afternoon. Until next time, goodbye.
