Everton get the game underway at Goodison Park!
Hello and welcome to the live commentary of the Premier League fixture between Everton and Aston Villa.
After a disappointing display against Liverpool, Everton bounced back with a 1-0 win over fellow strugglers Leeds to move out of the relegation zone. The Toffees have won two of their three games since Sean Dyche took over, keeping a clean sheet in both of those wins too. Goalkeeper Jordan Pickford will be looking to do his part in helping the club stay up as he signed a new contract this week, keeping him in Merseyside until 2027.
Although Villa are 11th in the Premier League table, three defeats on the bounce have edged them closer to the relegation battle. Unai Emery was certainly displeased in his post-match interview after the way his side lost late on to Arsenal, but this will be a good opportunity to get back to winning ways. Ollie Watkins has been a silver lining despite Villa’s poor form, having scored in each of the last four games.
SUBS: Tom Davies, Asmir Begovic, Demarai Gray, Ellis Sims, Mason Holgate, Michael Keane, Yerry Mina, Ben Godfrey, Ruben Vinagre.
EVERTON (4-5-1): Jordan Pickford; Seamus Coleman, Conor Coady, James Tarkowski, Vitaliy Mykolenko; Alex Iwobi, Abdoulaye Doucoure, Idrissa Gueye, Andre Onana, Dwight McNeil; Neal Maupay.
The players are making their way out of the tunnel and onto the pitch!
ASTON VILLA (4-4-2): Emiliano Martinez; Matty Cash, Ezri Konsa, Tyrone Mings, Lucas Digne; John McGinn, Douglas Luiz, Boubacar Kamara, Jacob Ramsey; Leon Bailey, Ollie Watkins.
Emery will need to make a tactical change at the break if Villa want a better chance of winning this game. They are not doing well in beating the Everton press and are not finding Watkins and Bailey in the right positions. Perhaps bringing on technical players such as Coutinho or Buendia will be his best call in this situation.
That's all for today, goodbye!
The defeat leaves Everton in the bottom three whereas Villa move level on points with Chelsea, who are yet to play this weekend. Dyche's side face Arsenal on Wednesday in their next fixture while Villa host Crystal Palace.
