We're under way in this European Championship qualifying clash.
Hello and live commentary of the European Championship qualifying clash between Luxembourg and Portugal at the Stade de Luxembourg.
Luxembourg began their qualifying campaign on the road with a solid goalless draw on the road against Slovakia. Luc Holtz's men will now look to build on their valuable point, although the standard of competition is raised with the visit of Portugal to the Stade de Luxembourg. They are unbeaten in their last six matches, but Holtz and his team will have to be flawless across the pitch to secure a positive result tonight.
Portugal brushed aside Liechtenstein in their first match of Group J qualifying and will be out to make it two wins out of two tonight under Roberto Martinez. The Selecao were clinical in front of goal in Martinez's first game, although they arguably missed out on the chance to put a more emphatic scoreline on the board in their 4-0 triumph. Portugal cannot take Luxembourg lightly, but Martinez's team have enough firepower to walk out with a comfortable victory.
LUXEMBOURG (4-4-2): Anthony Moris; Laurent Jans, Marvin Martins, Maxime Chanot, Michael Pinto; Danel Sinani, Christopher Martins Pereira, Lars Gerson, Leandro Barreiro Martins; Vincent Thill, Gerson Rodrigues.
PORTUGAL (3-5-2): Rui Patricio; Danilo Pereira, Ruben Dias, Antonio Silva; Diogo Dalot, Bruno Fernandes, Joao Palhinha, Bernardo Silva, Nuno Mendes; Joao Felix, Cristiano Ronaldo.
PORTUGAL SUBS: Diogo Leite, Goncalo Ramos, Jose Sa, Vitinha, Rafael Leao, Otavio, Joao Mario, Ruben Neves, Joao Cancelo, Diogo Jota, Celton Biai, Matheus.
Luxembourg came into the game with a six-match unbeaten run in all competitions, but have been blown away by the visitors. The home side have been far too open at the back and have been duly punished. Luc Holtz now needs to ensure that his side can make the second half respectable at least to ensure their goal difference does not suffer.
Both teams return to Euro 2024 qualifying action in June. Portugal host Bosnia-Herzeogovina, while Luxembourg are at home to Liechtenstein.
Thanks for joining our commentary. Until next time, goodbye.
